William Shakespeare
The Bard of Avon, William Shakespeare, is one of the most well-known figures in English literature. Love him or hate him, you cannot ignore his influence on not only literature but also our everyday life. After all, who isn’t familiar with Mark Antony’s famous speech beginning with “Friends, Romans, countrymen” or Hamlet’s soliloquy, “To be, or not to be”.
However, his legacy goes beyond his plays. Not only did Shakespeare invent a number of words we use daily (like employment, cheap and fashionable) but his works also continue to inspire authors and filmmakers, who’ve adapted them into some amazing books and movies.
